Unlike usual ukiyoe shunga (woodblock prints of some 200-300 years ago of Edo period of Japan, pornography prints were popular and not prohibited by the then Tokugawa Shogunate Government. They described more explicitly and exaggeratedly described man's and woman's genitals.) Ishizumi fans decided not to be so explicit and exaggerated to confirm to level of all generations of viewers, although the design of Ishizumi Shunga fans are taken from Edo period's ukiyoe shunga. Most Westerners think shunga-woodblock prints are not pornography but rather art. Therefore, British Museum will have Shunga exhibition in 2013. Ishizumi & Co. has launched shuga fans earlier than the exhibition of shunga prints at British Museum. All of Ishizumi fan's shunga are contemporary and originally hand-painted.
